Half of all Americans are psychic, says study - so, how do YOU stack
up?

Half of all Americans possess significant psychic powers that they
often are reluctant to develop thanks to unfounded fears and superstitions that have led
them to believe the eerie sixth sense they were born with is "evil."
That's the word from Dr. Nancy Selk, who conducted a massive nationwide
survey for the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, and found that 140
million men, women and children regularly:
o Predict or foresee future events.
o See ghosts and other spirit entities and communicate with the dead.
o Have out-of-body experiences, including those that involve being in
two places at once and traveling in the astral plane.
o Heal themselves or others with the power of their minds or simply by
touching them.
o Read minds and converse with other people telepathically.
o Hear voices and see visions that help them make good decisions in
everyday life and in business.
o See and talk with angels who both guide and protect them.
o Are telekinetic - they can move objects with the power of their minds
alone.
"For the purposes of our study we considered anyone who gathered
and acted on information gleaned from unseen sources to be psychic," says Selk, who
says she "unfortunately belongs to the half of Americans" who don't have psychic
powers.
"Examples could be something as simple as buying a scratch-off
lottery ticket simply because you're 'feel lucky' and then winning a $50 prize to
canceling a business trip because you dreamed that your plane was going to crash - and
then it does.
"But psychic powers aren't always so dramatic. Quite often, people
don't even realize that they are using their sixth sense day after day in all sorts of
ways.
"Anyone who 'trusts his intuitions' or acts on 'gut feelings' and
'instincts' is relying on information that comes from an unknown source. These people are
psychic and more often than not, they don't know it -- or are afraid of their power and
won't admit it.
"The tragedy of denial is that numerous studies have demonstrated
that people who recognize their psychic powers and exercise them can reap all sorts of
benefits, including a happier home life and greater success on the job."
One of the most common forms of psychic experience is communication
with the dead. According to Selk, a staggering 40 million Americans "stay in touch
with dearly departed friends and loved one who give them love, support and advice from the
other side."
Mind reading is another psychic event that as many as 100 million
Americans engage in every day.
"That's a huge number," says Selk. "Unfortunately, as
few as 20 million actually believe they are reading minds -- the experience is so uncanny
that it leaves them feeling unsettled and afraid - so they fail to develop the ability or
use it to their advantage.
"You'll hear them time and time again say there have been
occasions when they knew what somebody was thinking without having spoken to them. But
then they write it off as if it were a fluke.
"What they should be doing is trusting their ability and using
throughout the day. Just imagine what you could accomplish in life if you knew what other
people were thinking. Well, these people do know - but most discard the information
without taking advantage."
Selk says women and girls are more likely to be psychic than men and
boys. Of the 140 million Americans who are psychic, 90 million are female.
When gender is ignored and only age is considered, two thirds of
America's psychics - 95 million are children between the ages of 4 and 17 - the rest are
adults 18 and up.
"The numbers suggest that many people lose their psychic powers as they get
older," says Selk, "probably because they are afraid of them and do nothing to
develop them, so they atrophy and die."
