8 fun bets you can’t lose - just in time for the recession!

By DEREK CLONTZ

BET a pal he can’t stand with his right shoulder and right leg against a wall and lift his left leg for three seconds. Go ahead, try it yourself. It’s impossible to lift your left leg for one second, much less three!

Ka-ching! Cash! Now, pour 4 ounces of water in SMALL tumbler and bet someone he can’t drink the whole glass full in three gulps.

How do you win? Well, he can’t drink it full of water, but he can drink it empty or dry. Ka-ching! You win again!

These are just two of the wild and wacky wagers fun-loving guys and gals rely on to liven up parties and get-togethers or even win a buck or two from their know-it-all co-workers and friends.

Here are six more for a total of eight - proving there’s always more fun at derekclontz.com:

1. Bet you can remain under water for five minutes. How can you win? Balance a glass of water on your head for the allotted time.

2. Bet you can drop an egg six feet onto concrete without breaking it. To win the bet, stand on a chair or ladder that allows you to hold the egg at least seven feet high. When you drop it, the egg will fall six feet without breaking.

3. Bet a smoker he can’t huff and puff a cigarette down to where it says “Winston” or “Camel” or the name of the brand he’s smoking in, say, 25 puffs. He can, of course, smoke the cigarette down to where it reads “Winston” or “Camel” - but not to where it says it, because cigarettes can’t talk.

4. Got a 50-cent piece lying around the house? Good. Bet someone you’ve got two U.S. coins in your hand totaling 55 cents and one of them is NOT a nickel. Sound like there’s a trick to it? Not at all. Just hold that 50-cent piece and a nickel in your hand and win the bet. How? One of the coins IS a nickel, one of them ISN’T.

5. Tell a pal two mothers and two daughters won a contest that paid a total of $2,100 in prize money. Now, bet that each took home an equal amount of money, $700. He’ll say, “No way!” You say, “Yes, way! The two mothers and the two daughters were only three people: A grandmother, a mother, and a daughter.”

6. Bet someone that he can’t name five U.S. presidents who’s last names began with the letter H. The answer is: Herbert Hoover, Warren G. Harding, Rutherford B. Hayes, Benjamin Harrison and William H. Harrison. Most people forget there were two Harrisons and get stuck.
